In the 2017 STIHL parts catalog, 4134 020 1221 is listed as a 35 mm cylinder with piston, specifically for:
STIHL FS120 2-MIX

Original parts numbers for version 4134 020 1221In the STIHL catalog for this engine/version it is specified:
Cylinder with piston – 4134 020 1221
35 mm piston – 4134 030 2017
35 × 1,2 mm piston rings – 4134 034 3003
Piston pin 10 × 6,5 × 23 mm – 1139 034 1500
Piston retaining rings – 9463 650 1000
Cylinder base gasket – 4134 029 2301
Needle bearing 10 × 13 × 12,5 mm – 9512 003 2250These numbers are useful for checking which engine version is disassembled. They are original STIHL engine part numbers and do not mean that all individually listed parts are automatically included in this non-original kit.
Important: Only for 2-MIX version
This cylinder does not fit the regular STIHL FS120 or FS120 R without the 2-MIX engine.
In the same STIHL catalog the regular FS120 / FS120 R has a different cylinder and piston version. 4134 020 1221 is specifically for FS120 2-MIX and FS120 R 2-MIX.
There is also a later factory version. In the 2019 STIHL catalog, FS120 2-MIX and FS120 R 2-MIX are listed with the 4134 020 1222 35 mm cylinder, together with a different piston 4134 030 2023 and rings 4149 034 3005.
Therefore this item is specifically the 4134 020 1221 version. If repairing a later brushcutter, before purchasing you should check which cylinder and piston version it uses. Do not blindly mix piston and ring numbers between versions 1221 and 1222.
What to Check Before Installing
If the old piston is heavily scored or seized, you must first find the cause of the failure. Check:
Carburetor adjustment and fuel supply
Fuel filter and hoses
Intake system sealing
Crankshaft seals
The gasoline and two-stroke oil mixture used
Engine coolingAn engine running too lean can very quickly damage a new cylinder.
When installing, check the connecting rod and the upper needle bearing. Lightly lubricate the piston, rings and cylinder wall with clean two-stroke engine oil. The rings must rest against their locating pins, and the piston must be installed in the correct direction.
Use the correct cylinder base gasket and tighten the cylinder bolts according to STIHL technical requirements.
