    What to check before installation

If the old piston or cylinder is heavily scored, simply installing a new kit and hoping for the best is not enough. Two-stroke engines sometimes punish such optimism very quickly.

Check the fuel supply, carburetor operation, intake sealing, crankshaft oil seals, and the fuel and oil mixture used. A lean mixture or extra air through a leaking intake system can quickly damage a new cylinder.

Also check the connecting rod, the top needle bearing and the crankshaft bearings before installation. There should be no old gasket or metal debris left in the crankcase.

When installing the piston, rings and cylinder wall, lightly lubricate them with clean two-stroke engine oil. Insert the piston in the correct direction and align the rings with their locating pins. Tighten the cylinder evenly according to the manufacturer's specified tightening sequence and torque.
