This Stihl FS250 clutch – a non-original centrifugal clutch, designed for compatible Stihl brushcutters, trimmers, drills and other 4128 series equipment. It is used when the old clutch slips, overheats, engages unevenly or no longer properly transmits engine power to the clutch drum and drive shaft.

However, before ordering it is recommended to compare the central hub, overall diameter, the shape of the clutch weights and the arrangement of the springs.

Clutch operation and inspection

As engine speeds increase, the clutch weights, acted upon by centrifugal forces, spread out and press against the drum. Then the engine power is transmitted to the drive shaft and the working tool. When the engine returns to idle, the springs pull the weights together and the drive disengages.

Worn surfaces or weakened springs can cause slipping, overheating and delayed engagement. However, the working tool may also rotate due to excessive idle speed. Therefore, before replacing the clutch it is worth checking the carburetor adjustment.
