As engine speed increases, centrifugal force expands the clutch weights and presses them against the drum. Then the drum begins to turn the sprocket and the chain. When the engine returns to idle, the springs retract the weights, so the chain should stop.

Worn working surfaces or weakened springs can cause slipping, overheating and uneven engagement. However, the chain may also move due to excessive idle speed. Therefore, first check the carburetor adjustment.

Before installation inspect the drum, sprocket, needle bearing, crankshaft thread, oil pump gear and chain brake. Also remove sawdust and oil residues.

After fitting, rotate the drum by hand and make sure it does not bind. Finally, safely start the chainsaw and check that the chain does not move at idle.
