As engine speed increases, centrifugal force expands the clutch shoes. They are then pressed against the drum and transmit the engine power to the chain sprocket. When the engine is idling, the springs return the shoes to their original position, so the chain can stop.

If the clutch slips, overheats or engages the chain unevenly, also check the drum, sprocket and needle bearing. Worn adjacent parts can cause similar malfunctions.

This clutch has a left-hand thread. Therefore remove and tighten it in the correct direction, and secure the locking pin only with the proper tool or as specified by the manufacturer. After installation, check that the chain does not move when the engine is idling.
