Clutch for STIHL 044 046 MS440 MS460 MS461 MS341 MS361 Chainsaws

This Stihl MS460 clutch – a non-original three-weight centrifugal clutch, designed for selected Stihl 044, 046, MS440, MS460, MS461, MS341 and MS361 petrol chainsaw versions. As engine RPM increases, the clutch transfers power to the drum, sprocket and cutting chain. When the engine returns to idle, the springs pull the weights inward and the chain should stop.

This non-original clutch is offered as a replacement for two related Stihl clutch families. Therefore it is associated with the numbers 1128 160 2004 and 1135 160 2050. Since these numbers are used in different saw families, carefully compare the removed clutch and the product photos before ordering.

Worn weights or weakened springs can cause slipping, overheating and uneven engagement. However, a chain that moves at idle may also indicate excessively high engine RPM. Therefore, before replacing the clutch check the carburetor adjustment.

Before ordering, compare the central thread, the retainer construction, weight profile, spring arrangement and dimensions. Also inspect the drum, sprocket, needle bearing, crankshaft thread, oil pump gear and the chain brake.

When installing, follow the repair procedure for the specific saw. After installing, rotate the drum by hand and check that it does not jam. Finally, safely start the saw and make sure the chain does not move at idle.
